A chiller is a type of refrigeration system
that cools a tub of glycol to reduce its temperature. The glycol is then pushed
through a closed circuit of tubing or piping that is connected to the glycol chiller.
This circulates cooled glycol and helps to reduce the temperature of whatever
is attached to the system.

Why do we need to add glycol into the chiller?
As we know, water will be iced once the
temperature getting 0℃ or even below, glycol is helping water anti-freezing
into iced, that’s why we call it is glycol chiller.
Using a glycol-water mix as a chiller
coolant has various benefits over the use of plain water as a chiller fluid.
These advantages are due to its unique physical properties which include a
lower freezing point than water.
Generally, A glycol chiller plant is
composed of a refrigeration component and tubing containing a glycol-water
mixture as coolant. Chilled fluid from the refrigeration unit is channeled
through the piping associated with a thermal exchanger surrounding a heated
process. After absorbing heat from the associated process, the warmed coolant
is returned to the refrigeration unit for cooling after which the process is
repeated.
For many chiller types, ethylene glycol is
mixed with water at a ratio of 60/40. This higher percentage of glycol boosts
the mixture’s antifreeze properties significantly. This is useful in cases
where rapid cooling is required. In these situations, a process can be cooled
to very low temperatures without freezing the coolant within its piping.
A conventional water chiller works on the principles of heat transmission between various mediums both fluid and solid. These cooling systems work either by heat absorption or vapor compression. The basic components of a water chiller system include a refrigeration unit and a piping system that circulated chilled coolant.

1. The compressor of glycol chiller
Oumal glycol chiller uses top brand scroll or screw-type compressor features energy efficiency, low noise, and long service time.
In order to ensure that the pressure inside
the evaporator is low enough and that the refrigerant is at such a low
temperature, the compressor is used to pump out the evaporated refrigerant and
compress the low temperature and pressure into the high temperature and
pressure refrigerant gas.
2. Condenser for a glycol chiller
The refrigerant with high temperature and
pressure is condensed into liquid in the condenser. The refrigerant in the
condenser releases heat in the middle of air or water with a lower temperature
than it.
3. Thermal expansion valve in a glycol chiller
The thermal expansion valve plays an important role in a glycol chiller. The refrigerant of glycol chiller drops from the condensation pressure to the evaporation pressure, so the liquid from the condenser can be placed in the liquid receiver.
At this time, the refrigerant is in the
state of normal temperature and high pressure, and then passes through the
expansion valve to reduce the boiling point, and the liquid enters the
evaporator to absorb heat and evaporate.
4. The evaporator in a glycol chiller
There is two type of evaporator in glycol chiller- shell & tube type and plate heat exchanger.
After passing through the thermal expansion valve, the low-temperature and low-pressure refrigerant liquid exchanges with the evaporator.
Once the heat is absorbed, it becomes
saturated or overheated steam, which can be returned to the compressor for
refrigeration.
