FAQ
Q1. What is Moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) / Water vapor transmission rate (WVTR)?
A1.Moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR), also water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), is a measure of the passage of water vapor through a substance.
There are many industries where moisture control is critical. For example, in the garment/textile industry, MVTR as a measure of breathability has contributed to greater comfort for wearers of clothing for outdoor activity.
Q2. What is the water vapor permeability?
A2. That property of a material which permits the passage of water vapor through it; the time rate of water vapor transmission through a unit area of flat material of unit thickness induced by a unit vapor pressure difference between two specific surfaces, under specified temperature and humidity conditions.
Q3. How about water vapor transmission rate testing?
A3. There are various techniques to measure MVTR, ranging from gravimetric techniques that measure the gain or loss of moisture by mass, to highly sophisticated instrumental techniques that in some designs can measure extremely low transmission rates. Note that special care has to be taken in measuring porous substances such as fabrics as some techniques are not appropriate. Likewise for very low levels, many techniques would not have the resolution to provide a reliable result. Numerous standard methods are described in GB/T12704, ASTM E96, JIS L1099 Method A & B, BS 7209, ISO 17699, ISO 15496, etc.
Q4. Water vapor permeability tester recommended.
A4. UTS-M029 Fabric Water Vapor Transmission Tester is the equipment designed specially to perform various standards, including GB/T12704, ASTM E96, JIS L1099 Method A & B, BS 7209, ISO 17699, ISO 15496, so as test the Moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) / Water vapor transmission rate (WVTR).
